The International Labour Office, Geneva wished
to revamp their information CD, the last such CD had been made by
a Swiss company and the ILO was not very pleased with the design and
the execution the same. The Senior Publication officer was an Indian
lady and she was keen to explore the possibility of getting the revamp
done by an Indian company. She was convinced that an Indian firm would
be able to deliver quality at a reasonable price.
The International Labour Office choose Icreon as the development
agency for the development of the Multimedia CD; our first project
with the ILO, the project proved to be the beginning of an ongoing
relationship.
The projected involved the development of a Multimedia CD in three
languages ( English, French and Spanish).

The first task that Icreon was faced with was
to establish smooth communication between Icreon and ILO, Geneva.
The project also required the inclusion of a short video message
from the Director General as part of the opening. ILO wanted us to
go through 80 minutes of video and put together edited pieces of video
of not more than 30 seconds with the Director General's office in
the background.
The sheer volume of content that had to go into the CD was huge, there
were some 8 - 10 videos that needed to be included, press releases
for the last 2 years , photographs, ILO print materials, ILO newsletters
( a magazine called Work) - around 25 issues had to be included on
the CD; all of this in three languages.
The CD was to be made compatible with low configuration machines as
well; the ILO's target audience was global which implied that the
CD might travel to developing countries where advanced infrastructure
may not be available. |

As one of the key steps to begin this offshore
project, we started by setting up a smooth communication channel between
ILO, Geneva and Icreon. ILO was given 24/7 access to an Icreon project
manager. E-mail and messaging were decided upon as the key communication
mediums.
Icreon decided to use various pieces of edited video , put together
as a film , as an introduction. The introduction, focused on "Decent
Work for all" as the same was being emphasized by the Labour
office in Geneva. Considering the large volume of data it was decided
that after the introductory video we would open up into an interface
which would then have links to the other content available on the
site. All other video's were compressed using Real Player, documents
were made available as PDF files and installer files were provided
for Real Player and Acrobat Reader.
After considering various options, Icreon recommended the development
of the CD in Macromedia Authorware. Flash was used for components
in the CD and all of it was compiled as one CD. It was further decided
to use cardboard covers for the CD to reduce the space taken up and
a design for the CD face and the CD cover was put together to ILO's
satisfaction.
